The next part of my yoga journey

So it is now early 2023 and I'm in South East London - I have practiced yoga for 4 years, but I'm now without a studio. So - what next? I knew I wanted two things: a new regular studio and to deepen my practice beyond anything I had done before.

The lack of a regular studio made me think I needed regular yoga somehow - so this is how I ended up on my first ever yoga retreat to the Peak District with AdventureYogi. It was a great trip - a total detox for the brain and body and I would highly recommend the experience to anyone!

It also encouraged me to seek out a new studio for good - I think most of us are very humble about our own abilities and it wasn't till this trip that I realised how far I had come in my practice. I was much better at adjusting myself and knowing my body rather than simply following the literal word of the teacher.

With renewed energy I got back to the smoke and business of London - keen to try any local studio. I won't go into much detail of each studio - but you will find them in my overview of London yoga studios. However, currently my go-to studio is Hwyl - set up only in 2023 by a teacher who was associated with Yoga House - it's a beautiful small space in South East London. A serene atmosphere, the best equipment, variation in classes and with a maximum of 14 students per class - you do really get the enjoyment of both knowing your teachers and them offering helpful tips and adjustments.

With goal one achieved - what about deepening my practice? I wanted to know about yoga beyond the asana practice. On recommendation of a colleague, I am now in my final stages of the Foundation course with British Wheel of Yoga. This 60 hour course is a great start to get a "taster" of yoga teacher training (YTT). I have loved my time there and it has definitely encouraged me to seek out a yoga teacher training course - but also made me question what I actually want out of it and being realistic.

More on that in the next post "Choosing my teacher training - a work in progress"

Goodbye for now

Michi
